Amritsar MP Raises Alarm Over Drone-Based Smuggling in Punjab Border Areas
Congress Member of Parliament from Amritsar, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, has formally addressed Union Home Minister Amit Shah with a pressing letter highlighting the escalating incidents of drug and arms smuggling facilitated by drones across the border regions of Punjab. This communication comes at a time when the Home Minister was actively campaigning for the BJP in Moga, emphasizing the urgency of the security concerns raised by the MP.
Urgent Call for Strengthened Border Security Measures
In his detailed correspondence, Aujla specifically urged the Central Government to bolster security arrangements in the border areas of Punjab, with a particular focus on Amritsar. He pointed out that since Amit Shah was present in the state on Saturday, it presented an opportune moment to deliver the gift of enhanced security measures to the people of Punjab, addressing long-standing vulnerabilities.
The MP underscored that the Attari sector, along the Punjab border, has witnessed a continuous and alarming increase in cases involving the smuggling of narcotics, weapons, and ammunition via drones in recent times. Despite previous discussions and appeals on this matter, Aujla noted that the ground situation remains dire, necessitating immediate and concrete interventions to curb these illicit activities.

Aujla elaborated on the severe repercussions of the easy availability of illegal weapons through drone deliveries, which have contributed to a spike in criminal activities across the state. He cited incidents such as:

Additionally, the MP brought attention to the challenges faced by local residents due to newly installed barbed wire fencing at certain border locations.
