Meghalaya Chief Minister Honors SSLC Achievers from Childcare Institutions
In a heartwarming ceremony held in Shillong on Saturday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma felicitated 41 students who successfully completed their Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination 2026. These students hail from various childcare institutions across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region of the state, marking a significant milestone in their educational journeys.
Financial Support Announced for Higher Education
After presenting cash awards to the achievers, Chief Minister Sangma made a pivotal announcement. He declared that the higher secondary education of students from these childcare institutions would be financially supported by the chief minister’s secretariat. This initiative aims to ensure that these young individuals can continue their studies without financial hurdles, fostering their academic and personal growth.
Continuation of Felicitation Efforts
This event followed a similar felicitation program on Friday, where the chief minister honored 41 SSLC toppers from regular educational institutions. The SSLC examination, conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education, serves as a critical benchmark for students in the state. Sangma emphasized the importance of celebrating achievements across all sectors of society, stating, "Since yesterday, we have been felicitating achievers, young or old, and today we are here again to celebrate your success, courage, and hard work."
Commendation for Resilience and Determination
During the program, organized by the state social welfare department, Chief Minister Sangma commended the spirit of the children residing in childcare institutions. He observed that success is not determined by easy circumstances but by overcoming challenges. "Today all of you have proven that you are worthy of being here and that you have risen above the challenges and difficulties that you have faced," he told the students. He urged them to persist with determination and perseverance in their future endeavors.
The chief minister's words highlighted the resilience of these students, who have navigated adversities to excel academically. This felicitation not only recognizes their academic success but also underscores the state's commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in accessing quality education.
By extending financial aid for higher secondary education, the Meghalaya government aims to empower these students to pursue further studies and build brighter futures. This move aligns with broader efforts to enhance educational opportunities and social welfare in the region, particularly for those in institutional care.
