Amit Shah Calls for Tech Solutions to Modern Border Challenges

Amit Shah Advocates for Technological Upgrades in Border Security During Jammu Visit

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a visit to the 'Gurnam' Border Out Post on the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighted the evolving nature of frontier challenges and the imperative for modern technological solutions. Addressing Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and officers at the forward post of Bobbiyan in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, Shah underscored that while the vigilance and dedication of personnel remain paramount, emerging threats driven by advanced technology necessitate equally sophisticated countermeasures.

Shifting Challenges at the Frontiers

"We all share the common objective to keep the borders secure, but the challenges we faced at the frontiers 60 years ago are completely different from the challenges we face today," Shah stated. He elaborated that the constant watch maintained by BSF personnel is extremely important, yet there is a critical need to integrate technological innovations to address new-age security issues. "While your dedication to maintain constant vigilance on the borders is extremely important, we must also find technological solutions to challenges emerging through advanced technology," he emphasized.

Modernization and Welfare Initiatives for BSF

In his address, Shah lauded the BSF jawans for their operational successes, including the destruction of 118 Pakistani posts and two terror launch pads during Operation Sindoor. He recalled his commitment made at the 60th foundation day of the BSF, declaring that its 61st year would be observed as a period focused on modernization and the welfare of personnel and their families. "A team of officials in the Home Ministry is working on both these aspects," Shah revealed, adding that a specific plan would be unveiled soon.

The Home Minister assured that the Government of India is prepared to allocate the necessary funds for technological upgrades in border security. "I believe that improved border infrastructure and modern equipment will greatly help you in performing your duties and also try to reduce your difficulties to some extent," he said, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and soldier welfare.

High-Level Security Review and Context of the Visit

Accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka, and BSF Director General Praveen Kumar, Shah's visit included a high-level security review meeting at Lok Bhawan. This meeting involved senior officers from the Union Territory's administration, police, security forces, and intelligence agencies, focusing on strategies to bolster border management.

The visit occurs against a backdrop of heightened security concerns, with increased efforts to curb terrorist infiltration, weapon and narcotics smuggling, and anti-terror operations. Recent encounters in Kathua, Udhampur, and Kishtwar districts resulted in the elimination of four Pakistani terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) over the past two weeks, underscoring the urgency of Shah's discussions.

Upon his arrival in Jammu, Shah was received by Lt Governor Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and senior BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Sunil Sharma, reflecting the collaborative approach to regional security.
