Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority Greenlights Major Infrastructure Budget
The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) on Friday gave its approval to a substantial budget of Rs 3,101 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27. This financial plan is strategically centered on enhancing infrastructure across the city, with a particular emphasis on preparing for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in 2030.
Key Allocations for Development Projects
Auda has earmarked significant funds for critical infrastructure works in several key areas. In the Southwest Ahmedabad Sports Arena zone, a total of Rs 275 crore has been allocated. This includes Rs 180 crore for road construction, Rs 30 crore for drainage systems, Rs 20 crore for water supply initiatives, Rs 30 crore for stormwater drains, and Rs 15 crore for bridges.
Additionally, Rs 20.5 crore is designated for infrastructure development in the Karai area, while Rs 10 crore is set aside for building a new sports complex in Sanand. These investments reflect Auda's commitment to boosting urban amenities and sports facilities in anticipation of the international sporting event.
Budget Increase and Revenue Generation Plans
This year's budget marks a notable increase from the previous fiscal period. In 2025-26, Auda's board sanctioned a budget of Rs 2,231.2 crore, meaning the current allocation has risen by Rs 869.7 crore. To support this expanded expenditure, Auda has outlined several revenue streams.
The authority plans to generate Rs 1,300 crore from the sale of plots, with an intention to sell 50 plots during 2026-27. An estimated income of Rs 287.1 crore is expected from development permissions and impact fees. Furthermore, Auda anticipates a loan of Rs 560 crore from the Asian Development Bank and a government grant of Rs 300 crore specifically for the six-lane project on the SP Ring Road.
Other revenue sources include Rs 91.3 crore from various channels, with Rs 55 crore projected to come from interest on Auda's fixed deposits.
CEO D P Desai Highlights Infrastructure Priorities
Auda CEO D P Desai provided detailed insights into the budget allocations. "An allocation of Rs 600 crore has been made for new road projects and Rs 12 crore for repairing existing roads in growth centres like Kalol, Sanand, and Mahemdabad," he stated.
Desai further elaborated, "Rs 350 crore has been allocated for drainage networks and sewage treatment plants (STPs), and Rs 100 crore for the stormwater network in Kalol, among other initiatives." He also mentioned that Rs 50 crore is dedicated to the Jal Jeevan Mission project, and Rs 100 crore for water supply work in Sanand and Nidhrad.
Progress on Ghuma Railway Overbridge
In a related development, Auda approved the drafting of TP Scheme No. 244 (Manipur-Palodia-Sheelaj), which paves the way for resuming work on the Ghuma railway overbridge. The state government issued a notification on February 10, 2026, altering the zoning of land connecting the Ghuma bridge from agricultural to residential, facilitating the project's advancement.
This comprehensive budget underscores Auda's proactive approach to urban development, aiming to transform Ahmedabad's infrastructure landscape ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games while addressing ongoing civic needs.
