AAP Workers Stage Protest in Prayagraj Against Inflation and LPG Price Hike
Workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organized a significant protest on Saturday at the All Saints Cathedral crossing in Civil Lines, Prayagraj. The demonstration was aimed at voicing strong opposition to the escalating inflation and the recent surge in LPG cylinder prices across the nation.
Protest Led by Senior Party Leader Sanjay Singh
The protest was conducted under the directive of senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh. Party activists gathered in large numbers, submitting a formal memorandum addressed to the President of India through the local district administration. This action highlighted the party's commitment to addressing economic grievances through democratic channels.
Allegations Against Central Government Policies
Protesters leveled serious accusations against the economic policies of the BJP-led central government. They argued that these policies have plunged common citizens into severe financial distress, forcing them to endure the harsh impacts of inflation and a critical shortage of LPG cylinders. According to the demonstrators, poor and middle-class families are bearing the brunt of these economic challenges, facing unprecedented hardships in their daily lives.
Impact of LPG Price Increases
AAP district president Sarvesh Yadav provided detailed insights into the repercussions of the recent price hikes. He emphasized that the increase of Rs 60 in domestic LPG cylinder prices and Rs 120 in commercial cylinders has exacerbated the struggles of households and small traders alike. Yadav pointed out that sectors such as hotels, dhabas, restaurants, and street food vendors are experiencing a severe economic crisis due to the rising fuel costs, which threaten their sustainability and livelihoods.
Demands Outlined in the Memorandum
Through the submitted memorandum, the Aam Aadmi Party articulated several key demands to alleviate the economic burden on citizens. These include:
- Immediate rollback of the recent LPG cylinder price hike to provide relief to consumers.
- Introduction of a subsidy scheme specifically targeted at poor and middle-class families to mitigate the impact of inflation.
- Formulation of a clear and effective policy to control inflation and stabilize prices of essential commodities.
The protest underscored the growing public discontent over economic issues and the AAP's active role in advocating for policy changes to support vulnerable populations.
