Corruption Case Intact, Majithia Isolated in Akali Ranks: AAP Minister

Chandigarh, February 3, 2026: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab has strongly asserted that the bail granted to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia should not be projected as exoneration from corruption charges. Cabinet Minister Aman Arora emphasized that the corruption case against Majithia remains fully intact and will be thoroughly tested through the judicial process.

Bail Granted on Technical Grounds, Not Merits

Arora clarified that the Supreme Court's decision to grant bail was based on technical and procedural considerations rather than the merits of the corruption case itself. The minister stressed that Majithia has not received any clean chit, and allegations of large-scale corruption involving disproportionate assets will be examined through proper legal channels.

Earlier in the day, Majithia walked out of New Nabha Jail in Patiala after spending seven months in custody. His release followed the Supreme Court's bail order in a disproportionate assets case linked to alleged money laundering of approximately Rs 540 crore from drug trafficking operations.

Comprehensive Investigation and Strict Bail Conditions

Arora detailed that the Punjab Vigilance Bureau conducted an extensive investigation that uncovered substantial assets disproportionate to known sources of income. The investigation resulted in a voluminous chargesheet supported by substantial documentary evidence, which forms the foundation of the ongoing legal proceedings.

The AAP minister highlighted that strict bail conditions have been imposed to prevent any possibility of the accused fleeing or influencing witnesses. Additionally, the trial court has implemented restrictions on media reporting to ensure a fair judicial process free from external pressures.

Political Isolation Within Akali Ranks

AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu pointed to what he described as Majithia's political isolation within his own party. Pannu claimed that senior Akali Dal leaders and members of the influential Badal family were conspicuously absent when Majithia was released from Nabha Jail.

According to Pannu's observations, no former minister or MLA from the Akali Dal was present outside the jail to receive Majithia, suggesting a significant lack of support within his own political ranks during this critical moment.

Government's Commitment to Rule of Law

Reiterating the Punjab government's position, Arora stated that the AAP administration believes firmly in the rule of law rather than media trials or political narratives. The minister accused the Akali-BJP leadership of attempting to mislead the public by celebrating the bail as a victory while obscuring the factual realities of the ongoing corruption case.

Arora expressed confidence that truth would ultimately prevail in court and emphasized the government's commitment to pursuing corruption and drug-related cases to their logical conclusion, regardless of the political stature of those involved.

The minister's statements underscore the continuing political tensions in Punjab surrounding high-profile corruption cases and highlight the AAP government's determination to maintain its anti-corruption stance while navigating complex legal and political landscapes.
