AAP Functionary Gunned Down in Brazen Daylight Attack in Jalandhar

A shocking incident of political violence unfolded in Jalandhar on Friday morning when a local Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary, Satwinderpal Singh, popularly known as Lucky Oberoi, was brutally murdered in a brazen daylight shooting. The attack occurred outside Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Model Town, sending shockwaves through the state and prompting an immediate high-level police response.

Chilling CCTV Footage Captures the Murder

The entire murder was captured on CCTV cameras, providing crucial evidence to investigators. At approximately 7:35 AM, Lucky Oberoi had just finished paying obeisance at the gurdwara and was settling into the front seat of his Thar vehicle when the assailants struck. A man wearing a hoodie emerged from behind a parked car, walked casually towards Lucky's vehicle, and opened fire at point-blank range.

Simultaneously, another youth on a scooter, also wearing a hoodie, drove up from a nearby lane. After the shooting, both assailants quickly fled the scene on the scooter, disappearing into the city's lanes. Lucky Oberoi sustained five bullet wounds to his face and chest. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital by devotees and passersby, he could not be saved and was declared dead.

High-Level Police Response and Investigation

The murder triggered an immediate and robust response from Punjab's law enforcement authorities. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav rushed to Jalandhar to personally inspect the crime scene. He convened a high-level meeting with senior police officers to review the investigation's progress and coordinate efforts.

DGP Yadav confirmed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is personally monitoring the case and receiving regular updates on all developments. The DGP assured the public that the killers would be apprehended soon and would face exemplary punishment as per the law. Police teams have collected mobile tower dumps and are employing technical analysis to track the movements of suspects. All possible theories and motives are being thoroughly investigated.

Facebook Post Claims Responsibility, Points to Personal Feud

While the gunmen remain unidentified and the official motive is unclear, a Facebook post from an account named 'Joga Folriwal' has claimed responsibility for the murder. The post, which has approximately 6,500 followers, explicitly states that the act was carried out due to personal enmity.

The Facebook message alleges that Lucky Oberoi's portrayal as a leader on social media was false, accusing him of being a drug trafficker and user. It further links the murder to the presidency of Khalsa College's students' union, suggesting that Lucky had involved himself in the election process. The post mentions several names, including Surjeet Kooner, Sonu Khatri, Joga Folriwal, and the 'Khatri Group Nawanshahr,' indicating possible rival factions.

Political Connections and Background of the Victim

Lucky Oberoi was a financier and property dealer with significant political connections. He was known to be close to AAP's Jalandhar Cantt constituency in-charge, Rajwinder Thiara. Additionally, his wife, Simarjot Kaur, had contested the local municipal corporation election last year on an AAP ticket, though unsuccessfully.

Following the murder, an old video from December 2025 surfaced on social media, showing Lucky Oberoi announcing the 'appointment' of the union president and vice-president for Khalsa College. This has fueled speculation about his involvement in campus politics and potential rivalries.

FIR Registered Based on Brother's Statement

Based on a statement given by Lucky Oberoi's brother, Damandeep Singh, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Jograj Singh alias Joga Folriwal and Dalbira. Damandeep claimed that these individuals had a longstanding enmity with his brother and had threatened him previously.

He also reported that one of Lucky's friends, who was present at the gurdwara, witnessed two vehicles hurriedly following the scooter-borne assailants as they fled. This detail is being actively pursued by investigators as they piece together the events leading to the murder.

The case continues to develop as police work to identify the perpetrators and establish a clear motive behind this brutal killing that has rattled the political landscape in Punjab.
