Tragic Highway Collision Claims Lives of Three CRPF Jawans and Civilian Driver in Chhattisgarh

A devastating road accident in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Saturday morning resulted in the tragic deaths of four individuals, including three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, and left another jawan critically injured. The fatal collision occurred when the car carrying the security personnel violently rammed into the rear of a truck on a national highway.

Details of the Fatal Accident

The catastrophic incident unfolded near the Khapri bypass in the Arjuni region, where the CRPF personnel were traveling from Jagdalpur to Raipur after being granted leave. According to preliminary reports, the car carrying the jawans was scheduled to proceed toward their native places when it crashed into the back of a truck moving ahead on the highway.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, with airbags deployed and occupants trapped inside the wreckage. The force of the crash necessitated a complex rescue operation involving cranes and cutters to extricate the victims from the twisted metal.

Victims Identified and Rescue Efforts

The deceased have been officially identified as CRPF Head Constable Mukesh Kumar, Sub-Inspector Umendra Singh, Constable Rajkumar Gaur, and civilian driver Hiralal Nagar. Another jawan, Abhiman Rai, sustained serious injuries in the accident and was referred to Raipur for advanced medical care after receiving primary treatment at the district hospital.

Police confirmed that five occupants—including personnel from the CRPF's specialized CoBRA battalion and the civilian driver—were traveling in the car at the time of the crash. Two personnel died instantly at the scene, while three others were pulled out in critical condition during the rescue operation.

Local residents immediately alerted police and emergency services, who launched a swift rescue mission to save the trapped victims. Despite being rushed to the district hospital, the driver and one additional jawan succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

Official Response and Investigation

Senior officials, including Dhamtari CSP Abhishek Chaturvedi, Additional SP Shailendra Pandey, and CRPF officers, promptly reached the accident site to oversee operations. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and authorities are in the process of informing the families of the deceased personnel.

Police have registered a formal case and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the tragic incident. Investigators are recording statements from witnesses to determine the exact cause of the collision and whether factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed, or driver fatigue contributed to the fatal crash.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the dangers faced by security personnel even during routine travel and underscores the importance of road safety measures on national highways. The CRPF community and local authorities mourn the loss of these dedicated personnel while praying for the recovery of the injured jawan.
