A 22-year-old woman was allegedly molested by an unidentified man while she was out on a walk in the Mathikere area of Bengaluru late on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when the woman was walking near a park in the locality.
According to the police, the accused approached the woman from behind and touched her inappropriately before fleeing the spot. The woman immediately raised an alarm, but the man managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The victim, a resident of the area, later filed a complaint at the Mathikere police station. Based on her statement, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).
Investigation underway
Police officials stated that they are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspect. A team has been formed to trace the accused, and efforts are on to nab him at the earliest. The area has been known for similar incidents in the past, and the police have increased patrolling in the vicinity.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who have demanded better security measures in the area. Many have called for improved street lighting and more frequent police patrols to ensure the safety of women, especially during evening hours.
Safety concerns
This is not the first case of molestation reported from Mathikere. In recent months, several women have complained about being harassed while walking in the area. Activists have urged the authorities to take strict action against offenders and implement measures to prevent such crimes.
The police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could help in identifying the suspect. They have also advised women to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
