Woman Killed in Ambala by Allegedly Drunk Police Officer's Car on NH-44
A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night in Ambala, where a 24-year-old woman lost her life after a car, allegedly driven by a drunk police officer, collided with her e-rickshaw on National Highway 44 in the Parao area. The victim, identified as Nikita from Model Town, was traveling towards Ambala City when the police officer's vehicle struck the e-rickshaw from behind, causing her to fall onto the highway and be crushed by the car.
Details of the Fatal Accident
Nikita was immediately rushed to the civil hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. The accused, head constable Amit Kumar, has been arrested, according to Parao Station House Officer (SHO) Dharamvir. The e-rickshaw driver, Ravinder Singh, recounted the harrowing event, stating that he was coming from Ambala Cantonment with four passengers when a speeding Honda City, driven by the policeman, hit his vehicle near the Kali Paltan bridge. Singh described the officer as heavily drunk and barely able to stand, noting that the public helped apprehend him and bring him to the hospital.
Family Outrage and Hospital Protests
Family members of the deceased gathered at the hospital, protesting against the officer's actions. They attempted to enter the hospital where Amit Kumar was undergoing a medical examination, leading to a tense situation. Extra police personnel were deployed to control the crowd, and the trauma centre's shutter gate was forcibly closed. The protests lasted for approximately four hours before the situation was normalized.
