Woman injured as brother-in-law tries to run her over

A 36-year-old woman sustained severe injuries after her brother-in-law allegedly attempted to run her and her husband over with a car near the Dehlon bypass, stemming from a long-standing family property dispute. The incident occurred on May 2 when the couple was en route to the Dehlon police station to file a complaint against the accused.

Details of the Incident

The victim, Kirandeep Kaur from Saian Khurd village, reported to the police that she and her husband, Kuldeep Singh, have been embroiled in a property dispute with Avtar Singh, also known as Jagtar Singh, who is Kuldeep's elder brother. She alleged that on April 27, Avtar Singh and his accomplices forcibly entered their home, vandalized the property, and assaulted the couple.

On May 2, Kirandeep and Kuldeep were traveling on a motorcycle to the police station. They paused near the Dehlon bypass because Kuldeep received a phone call. At that moment, the accused allegedly arrived in a car and drove toward them at high speed with the intent to kill them.

Injuries and Medical Treatment

Kuldeep managed to jump aside to avoid being hit, but Kirandeep was struck by the vehicle, resulting in a fractured leg and other injuries. She was subsequently taken for medical treatment.

Investigating officer ASI Dharam Singh confirmed that the dispute between the brothers is related to property and noted that the matter is already pending before a court. Kirandeep also alleged that her mother-in-law and other relatives had previously attempted to forcibly evict her family from their home.

Legal Action

The Dehlon police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Avtar Singh and his aides under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
