A 41-year-old woman was brought to a private hospital in Gurgaon with visible strangulation marks on her neck, prompting the police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Incident Details
The police received a call around 9 pm from hospital authorities informing them about the death of Mamta Devi, a homemaker and resident of Saraswati Colony in Sector 37. She was brought to the hospital by her husband.
Doctors suspected foul play due to the nature of her condition. Visible marks around the woman's neck raised concerns of possible strangulation. However, police cited the family's version, stating that the marks appeared to be old and not necessarily linked to the cause of death.
Police Investigation
An officer said the body was taken into custody and sent for an autopsy. "The exact cause of death will be established after the autopsy report is received. Only then can the sequence of events be ascertained," the officer said.
Family members told investigators that Mamta died due to cardiac arrest. Police are examining all angles, including her medical history and the circumstances leading up to her death, to rule out any foul play.
Legal Proceedings
Initial proceedings have been initiated under Section 194 (inquest proceedings) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deals with cases of unnatural or suspicious deaths. Police also said the woman's husband, who works at a private company, met with an accident last month and has been staying at home since then.
Statements of family members and neighbours are being recorded. Further action will depend on the autopsy report, cops said.
