Family Files Case Against Acupuncturist Husband After Woman's Death in Thrissur

A tragic case of alleged medical negligence has emerged from Thrissur, Kerala, where the family of a 37-year-old woman has filed a police complaint against her acupuncturist husband following her death after childbirth complications. The incident occurred in Edakkazhiyur, Thrissur, with the woman, identified as Muhsina, passing away on Thursday.

Details of the Allegations and Medical History

According to the family's complaint, Muhsina gave birth to her seventh child at home on January 6. While her previous six deliveries had taken place in hospitals, this time, her husband Ibrahim, an acupuncturist, allegedly denied her proper medical care and relied exclusively on acupuncture treatment. The family claims that untreated wounds from the acupuncture procedure led to severe infections, which ultimately caused her death.

Following the delivery, Muhsina developed serious health complications, but instead of seeking conventional medical help, Ibrahim continued to treat her with acupuncture. The family alleges that multiple wounds across her body became severely infected due to this lack of proper care. It was only after family intervention that she was admitted to a private hospital in Thrissur last Monday, by which time the infection had significantly worsened. She was later shifted to the medical college hospital in Thrissur, where she died on Thursday.

Police Investigation and Additional Family Tragedies

The Chavakkad police have registered a case based on the complaint, citing unnatural death and initiating a thorough investigation. The couple had been married for 15 years, and the family has raised further concerns about Ibrahim's practices. They allege that he avoided follow-up medical treatment and did not ensure vaccinations for their children. Tragically, the seventh child died just three days after birth, and the family also claims that the couple's three-year-old daughter passed away last year due to a lack of proper medical care.

Ibrahim previously operated an acupuncture clinic in Tirur and has not yet responded to the allegations. The police are continuing their inquiry to determine the full circumstances surrounding Muhsina's death and the broader implications of the family's claims regarding medical neglect.
