Woman Allegedly Beaten to Death with LPG Cylinder by Husband in Delhi
A 32-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband with an LPG cylinder at their home in south east Delhi's Pul Prahladpur area on Sunday night. The victim, identified as Poonam, was living with her husband Suresh Kumar in a DDA Janta Flats unit.
Recent Move from Rajasthan
The couple had married in 2020 and had shifted to Delhi from Churu in Rajasthan barely a month before the tragic incident. According to the initial police investigation, the fatal assault was triggered by an argument over financial support for the husband's brother.
Police officials stated that the accused allegedly attacked Poonam repeatedly using a small LPG cylinder, inflicting fatal injuries that caused her death on the spot. The violent altercation escalated quickly, resulting in the woman's immediate demise.
Children and Family Circumstances
The couple has two young daughters—a four-year-old who lives with grandparents in Churu, and a younger child, aged around one-and-a-half years, who was present in the house at the time of the incident. The presence of the toddler during the violent episode adds another layer of tragedy to this domestic violence case.
Police Response and Investigation
Neighbors alerted the police after hearing screams from the flat. By the time officers reached the spot, the woman had already succumbed to her injuries. Suresh Kumar was taken into custody from the scene without resistance.
Police have registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are continuing their investigation. The ongoing probe includes detailed questioning of the accused and thorough examination of the circumstances that led to the fatal assault. Investigators are also looking into the couple's recent relocation and financial situation as part of their comprehensive inquiry.
This incident highlights the persistent issue of domestic violence in urban areas and raises questions about support systems for vulnerable families who have recently migrated to metropolitan cities. The use of a household item like an LPG cylinder as a weapon underscores the unpredictable nature of domestic violence situations.
