A 39-year-old woman was arrested in Bijnor for the fatal shooting of her live-in partner, alleging that he had assaulted and blackmailed her using objectionable videos, according to police statements released on Saturday.
Arrest and Charges
The woman, a resident of Bhaneda village under Kiratpur police station, was taken into custody on Friday. She has been charged under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, sections of the Arms Act were invoked after law enforcement officials recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol and a live cartridge from the scene.
Investigation Details
During interrogation, the woman admitted to shooting 25-year-old Anuj on April 28. Bijnor Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jha provided further insights into the case. The woman had been living separately from her husband since 2023 and entered a live-in relationship with Anuj in 2024.
“She alleged that Anuj assaulted her, blackmailed her with objectionable videos, and demanded money. She also claimed that he forced her into relationships with other individuals and had inappropriate intentions toward her minor daughter and sisters,” Jha stated.
The police investigation continues as authorities examine the evidence and statements to build a comprehensive case. The recovered weapon has been sent for forensic analysis to corroborate the woman's confession.
