Fear has once again gripped rural communities in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district after a wolf was spotted in the Kaiserganj area on Monday. This alarming sighting comes merely a day after a one-year-old girl was killed in a brutal wild animal attack, shattering the brief sense of relief that followed.
Chaos Erupts After Afternoon Sighting
According to local accounts, the situation turned tense around 2 pm on Monday when villagers working in agricultural fields on the outskirts spotted the wolf. The news spread rapidly, causing immediate chaos. Residents raised alarms and rushed towards the fields, armed with sticks and batons, in an attempt to confront the animal. Their aggressive response forced the wolf to retreat and flee into the safety of nearby dense sugarcane fields, where it managed to escape.
Fresh Trauma After a Recent Tragedy
Monday's incident has dramatically heightened anxiety in the region, which is still reeling from a horrific event on Saturday. In the Jaruwa hamlet of Godhiya No. 4 village, a wolf snatched one-year-old Rivi, the daughter of Ramkumar. The child's remains were later discovered in a field approximately 1.5 km away, sending shockwaves throughout the entire district.
In response to that tragedy, the forest department had initiated an intensive search operation. They tracked down and killed one wolf, which initially brought a measure of relief to the terrified villagers who believed the immediate threat had been neutralized. However, the latest sighting has unequivocally raised fears that more wolves may be prowling the area.
Official Response and Ongoing Searches
Villagers expressed their deep distress over the recurring danger. Ram Ujagar, a local resident, stated that the wolf menace has made life miserable, with families now living in constant fear for their children's safety. Village head Pawan Yadav confirmed the timeline of Monday's event and the wolf's escape into the sugarcane crops.
The forest department has swiftly reactivated its response. Divisional Forest Officer Ram Singh Yadav announced that a drone-based search operation is currently underway across the affected area. Four teams have been deployed to track the animal. Authorities have appealed to the public to:
- Remain extremely vigilant.
- Avoid sending children outside alone.
- Immediately report any further sightings to officials.
The department has intensified surveillance in the Kaiserganj region and affirmed that search operations will continue relentlessly until the threat is fully neutralized, aiming to restore a sense of security to the traumatized villages.
