Wife's Robbery Drama Unravels as Murder Plot in Madhya Pradesh

In a shocking twist, what was initially reported as a violent late-night robbery in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district has been exposed as a chilling tale of betrayal and premeditated murder, with the victim's wife allegedly orchestrating an elaborate "robbery drama" to cover up the crime.

Victim Found Stabbed, Wife Narrates Horrific Tale

Dev Krishna Purohit, a 28-year-old resident of Gondikheda Charan village, approximately 60 kilometers from Indore, was discovered stabbed to death at his home on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Shortly after the incident, his wife, Priyanka Purohit, 25, began recounting a terrifying story to relatives and others, claiming a gang of robbers had invaded their residence.

In a tearful and visibly shaken state, she described how the assailants allegedly gagged her, threatened to kill her husband if she screamed, and dragged him away. She claimed she handed over all valuables to save their lives, stating, "I said I will give everything... I took out all my belongings and gave them." Priyanka asserted she saw two attackers but believed there were more, and was tied up in another room, unaware of when her husband was killed. Her dramatic account initially painted a picture of a violent robbery gone awry.

Investigation Reveals Inconsistencies

However, police quickly noticed discrepancies in Priyanka's story. Jewellery and valuables she claimed were looted were still found inside the house. The nature of Dev Krishna's injuries indicated a targeted attack rather than a random burglary. Additionally, inconsistencies in her statements and missing mobile data raised suspicions.

Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi stated that the case was solved within 36 hours, with evidence pointing toward a planned murder instead of a robbery. Under interrogation, investigators uncovered that Priyanka was allegedly involved in a relationship with Kamlesh, 32, and the two conspired to eliminate her husband.

Affair Leads to Contract Killing Conspiracy

Police revealed that Priyanka and Kamlesh hired a contract killer, Surendra, for Rs 1 lakh to carry out the murder. The plan was not only to kill Dev Krishna but also to stage the crime scene as a robbery to avoid detection. After the killing, Priyanka allegedly adhered to the script, crying and describing masked men in an attempt to create a believable narrative of fear and helplessness.

Under sustained questioning, her version collapsed, and she eventually confessed to the conspiracy, according to police reports.

Troubled Marriage and Family Allegations

Family members described the couple's relationship as deeply strained. Dev Krishna's mother alleged that Priyanka rarely stayed at her matrimonial home, preferring her parental house, and frequently engaged in arguments. His sister, Jyoti, painted a grim picture of constant conflict, claiming Priyanka would humiliate her brother over his appearance, saying, "You are dark, you don't deserve me." Jyoti also suspected Priyanka's relationship with another man since 2020, indicating tensions had been building for years.

Investigators noted that Priyanka was married to Dev Krishna at around 15 years old and moved to his house after adulthood but was unwilling to continue the relationship, leading to frequent disputes. The final plan was executed shortly after she returned from her parental home.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

Priyanka and Kamlesh have been arrested, while the contract killer, Surendra, remains absconding. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is ongoing.

From Robbery Horror to Murder Plot

What makes this case particularly striking for investigators is not just the alleged conspiracy but the detailed and emotional "performance" that followed—a narrative of fear and violence that briefly convinced those around her. Ultimately, what appeared to be a terrifying robbery turned out to be a meticulously planned killing, with police emphasizing that the truth emerged from contradictions behind the act rather than the crime scene alone.
