Wife and Lover Arrested for Alleged Murder of Husband in Rajasthan

In a shocking crime that has gripped the Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan, police have made significant arrests in a murder case involving a husband allegedly killed by his wife and her lover. The Sriganganagar police on Monday arrested a woman and her male companion for the alleged murder of her husband, whose body was later discovered dumped in a canal. Additionally, a 15-year-old boy accused of being part of the conspiracy has been detained by authorities.

Victim Identified as Furniture Craftsman Bhajanlal

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Bhajanlal, a furniture craftsman residing in village 4 ZWM within the Gharsana area of Sriganganagar district. Bhajanlal was reported missing by family members before his body was tragically recovered on February 2 from the Indira Gandhi Canal located in the Nokh region of Phalodi district. The recovery site was approximately 270 kilometers away from his home village, indicating a deliberate attempt to conceal the crime. Police officials stated that the body had drifted for several days in the canal before being found by local authorities.

Premeditated Killing Linked to Alleged Affair

Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan confirmed that the killing was premeditated and allegedly connected to an extramarital affair. According to police investigations, Bhajanlal's wife, 30-year-old Indra Devi, was allegedly involved in a long-running relationship with 33-year-old Prabhu Dayal, a daily wage labourer from the same village. The two adults are accused of conspiring to eliminate Bhajanlal to continue their relationship without obstruction.

Detailed Account of the Alleged Murder

Police have reconstructed the events leading to the murder based on their investigation and interrogations. On January 16, Bhajanlal was riding his motorcycle towards Gharsana when he was allegedly intercepted on the outskirts of his village by Prabhu Dayal and the minor boy. The assailants reportedly assaulted Bhajanlal with sticks and then strangled him with a rope. During this brutal attack, Indra Devi remained in constant contact with Prabhu Dayal via phone, according to police records.

After the initial assault, the accused placed Bhajanlal on his motorcycle and transported him approximately 15 kilometers to the Indira Gandhi Canal. Shockingly, near the canal bank, Bhajanlal regained consciousness. In a desperate move, Prabhu Dayal and the minor boy allegedly struck his head with a brick, resulting in his death. To destroy evidence, they then threw both the body and the motorcycle into the canal.

Investigation and Arrests

Suspicion quickly fell on Indra Devi shortly after Bhajanlal was reported missing. Police utilized call detail records which allegedly showed frequent communication between Indra Devi and Prabhu Dayal around the time of the murder. The alleged conspiracy was further uncovered during intensive interrogation sessions conducted by the investigating team.

The accused individuals have been formally booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including:

  • Murder
  • Criminal conspiracy
  • Destruction of evidence
  • Involving a minor in a heinous crime

This case highlights the grim realities of domestic disputes escalating into violent crimes and the meticulous work of law enforcement in unraveling complex criminal conspiracies. The Sriganganagar police continue their investigation to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
