Wedding Procession Attacked in Hamirpur, Groom Injured

A joyous wedding celebration turned violent on Thursday evening when a group of assailants ambushed a wedding procession near Basela bus stand in Hamirpur, brutally attacking the groom and his relatives. The motive behind the assault is believed to be an old enmity, according to police and the victims' family.

Details of the Attack

The groom, identified as Munnilal, a farmer from Jhinna Veera village under Majhgawan police station, was traveling in a white four-wheeler with the wedding party (baraat) when the attack occurred. The procession was heading to Imlaur village in Banda district. Approximately 30 kilometers from their starting point, around 15 individuals lying in wait stopped the vehicle, vandalized it, and dragged the groom out. They proceeded to beat him with sticks, batons, and sharp-edged weapons. In a span of about 20 seconds, nine of the attackers allegedly struck more than 100 blows.

Injuries Sustained

Four people, including the groom, suffered serious injuries. Munnilal sustained severe head and body injuries, while his elder brother Jagdev Rajput was critically hurt. Others injured included Munnilal's niece Rupali (17), and Jagdev's children Gagan (6) and Amrita (4). The car was extensively damaged and left wrecked. A crowd gathered after hearing the commotion, prompting the accused to flee the scene. Police arrived after receiving information and admitted the injured to a hospital. After receiving treatment, the groom decided to continue with the wedding procession and left for Banda around 9 pm.
