In a significant breakthrough against organized property crime, the rural sub-division police in Vijayapura have successfully solved 48 separate theft cases through a coordinated investigation effort. The operation led to the arrest of 14 suspects operating across state and district lines, with authorities recovering stolen property valued at approximately Rs 1.2 crore.
Major Recovery of Stolen Jewellery and Vehicles
The recovered items include 426.2 grams of jewellery worth Rs 65 lakh, along with Rs 20 lakh in cash. Additionally, police have seized two cars and 39 motorcycles as part of the extensive recovery operation. The total value of all recovered assets underscores the scale of criminal activity that has been disrupted.
Bus Theft Case and Special Investigation Team
One prominent case involved the theft of 65 grams of jewellery from Savita Shankargouda Narasangoudra of Chimmalagi. The incident occurred while she was traveling on a bus from Vijayapura to Managuli on May 30, 2025. SP Laxman Nimbargi confirmed that a special investigation team, including officers TS Sulpi and Ramesh Avaji, played a crucial role in cracking this case.
Police arrested five suspects near Mulawad Cross, who not only confessed to the bus theft but also admitted involvement in seven other criminal cases. While one accused remains absconding, authorities have recovered a car and jewellery worth approximately Rs 65 lakh connected to these crimes.
Motorcycle Theft Network Uncovered
In a separate development, police arrested a suspect linked to a motorcycle theft at Managuli Bypass. During interrogation, the accused confessed to stealing 19 motorcycles valued at Rs 5.30 lakh, leading to the recovery of all stolen vehicles. This revelation exposed a broader pattern of vehicle theft in the region.
Fake Gold Coin Cheating Case Solved
Investigators also made progress in a cheating case involving fake gold coins, where one Lakshman of Kallur was duped of Rs 26 lakh. Police have arrested four accused in connection with this fraud and recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash along with a car used in the commission of the crime.
Inter-State Criminal Operations Disrupted
Further expanding the scope of their investigation, police detained three suspects near Aliyabad village in January 2026. These individuals confessed to stealing motorcycles across different states, resulting in the recovery of 20 motorcycles worth Rs 7 lakh. This highlights the inter-state dimension of the criminal networks operating in the area.
Ongoing Investigations and Future Actions
Police authorities have confirmed that investigations are continuing to trace the remaining absconding accused and recover additional stolen property. The comprehensive nature of this police operation demonstrates a determined effort to combat property crimes affecting both urban and rural communities in the Vijayapura region.
The successful resolution of these 48 cases represents a significant achievement for law enforcement in Karnataka, particularly in tackling organized criminal groups that operate across jurisdictional boundaries. Police officials have emphasized their commitment to maintaining vigilance and pursuing all leads to ensure complete justice in these matters.
