Masked Thieves Execute Brazen Daylight Robbery in Vijayapura Village
A shocking daylight robbery unfolded on Monday evening in Halasangi village, located in Chadachan taluk of Vijayapura district, sending waves of panic through the local merchant community. Two unidentified individuals, clad in masks and black jackets, stormed into a jewellery store at approximately 4 pm, brandishing a pistol to intimidate the owner before fleeing with a substantial haul of gold and silver jewellery.
CCTV Captures Crime, But Masks Obscure Identities
The entire audacious incident was recorded on the shop's CCTV cameras, providing crucial visual evidence. However, the perpetrators' use of masks and helmets has complicated efforts to identify them, leaving police reliant on other investigative leads. Authorities from the Chadachan police station swiftly arrived at the scene, launching a detailed probe based on the footage and a thorough inspection of the crime site.
Police Detail the Robbery and Shooting Incident
Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi, who rushed to the spot along with other senior officials, provided a detailed account. According to his statement, the duo arrived on a black Honda Unicorn motorcycle, parking it adjacent to the Bhumika Jewelry Shop under the Zalaki police station limits. They threatened the shop owner, Maharudra Sadashiva Kanchagara, with a firearm before seizing approximately 205 grams of gold jewellery and one kilogram of silver.
In a disturbing escalation, a neighbouring mobile shop owner, Anil Basanna Galagali, began recording the theft on his phone. Upon noticing this, one of the thieves fired a shot in his direction. The bullet struck an 18-year-old boy standing nearby in the leg. The injured youth was promptly transported to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Investigation Underway Amid Rising Concerns
Police officers have visited the scene, collecting evidence and initiating a comprehensive investigation to track down the culprits. The exact monetary value and precise quantity of the stolen items are still being ascertained, adding to the urgency of the case.
This incident has sparked significant alarm among local merchants, compounded by the memory of a recent high-profile robbery at the State Bank of India branch in the same taluk. In that earlier case, as per the bank manager's complaint, thieves made off with cash amounting to Rs 1.4 crore and 20 kg of jewellery, highlighting a troubling pattern of criminal activity in the area.
The Vijayapura police are now intensifying their efforts, combining technological analysis of the CCTV footage with ground-level inquiries to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of security in the community.
