The Visakhapatnam Bar Association (VBA), recognized as the largest professional body for lawyers in Andhra Pradesh, has officially released the election schedule for its 2026-27 term. The polling for these crucial elections is scheduled to take place on April 10, marking a significant event in the legal community of the region.
Nomination Process and Key Dates
According to Lalam Parvathi Naidu, the current general secretary of VBA, the filing of nominations for various posts commenced on Monday, March 23. The nomination window remains open until March 25, allowing candidates to submit their papers for a range of positions. These include:
- President
- Vice-President
- General Secretary
- Joint Secretary
- Treasurer
- Women's Advocate Representative
- Cultural and Sports Secretary
- Library Secretary
- Nine additional office-bearer posts
Following the nomination period, the scrutiny of nominations is set for March 26, with the final list of contestants to be announced on March 28. Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations on March 30, after which the election campaign is expected to intensify.
Voter Participation and Election Dynamics
The VBA boasts a substantial electorate, with more than 3,400 eligible voters, including a significant number of women advocates. It is anticipated that around 90% of these voters will exercise their franchise on polling day, reflecting high engagement within the legal fraternity. The counting of votes will commence immediately after the polling concludes on April 10.
