Varanasi Teenager Fatally Assaulted in Mobile Phone Theft Dispute

In a tragic incident in Varanasi, a 17-year-old boy from Ghamahapur village under the Rohania police station was beaten to death on Saturday night near Panditpur. The assault was carried out by a history-sheeter and his associates, who accused the teenager of stealing a mobile phone.

Details of the Fatal Attack

According to ACP (Rohania) Sanjiv Sharma, the victim, identified as Shanu Ali, was killed in a dispute related to the alleged theft of a mobile phone. The prime accused, Ramesh Patel, along with six accomplices, has been charged with murder. Police teams are actively working to apprehend the suspects at the earliest.

Shanu Ali's uncle, Akhtar Ali, recounted the harrowing events. Around 9 pm on Saturday, Patel and his group forcibly entered their home, accusing Shanu of stealing a mobile phone. Under the pretense of resolving the matter at a police outpost, they took him away. Instead, they brought him to a culvert near a petrol pump outside Panditpur village, where they subjected him to a brutal beating.

Before family members could intervene, the assailants fled, leaving Shanu unconscious. He was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Background and Motive

Akhtar Ali revealed that Shanu worked as a mason to support his mother and two siblings after his father's death. He had been targeted by Patel for an extended period. Patel suspected that Shanu had provided information leading to his arrest in a cattle smuggling case in 2015, for which Patel served jail time.

ACP Sharma emphasized that Patel's criminal history, including his prior incarceration for cattle smuggling, will be thoroughly examined during the investigation. All aspects related to both the deceased and the accused will be covered to ensure a comprehensive probe.

Police Response and Legal Action

A murder case has been officially registered against Ramesh Patel and his six associates. Authorities are leveraging Patel's known criminal record to expedite the investigation and secure arrests. The case highlights ongoing concerns about vigilante justice and criminal activities in the region.

This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced law enforcement and community safety measures in Varanasi to prevent such tragedies in the future.
