Private Van Overturns on Karur-Dindigul Highway, One Person Injured
In a distressing road incident, a private van overturned on a roadside embankment near Vedasandur in Dindigul district during the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in one injury while five others managed to escape unharmed. The accident has raised concerns about road safety on the busy Karur-Dindigul four-lane highway.
Details of the Accident and Rescue Efforts
According to police sources, the van was driven by its owner, Kumar, a 35-year-old resident of Allinagaram in Theni district. He was accompanied by his wife, Kalpana, his father-in-law, Sakthivel, his aunt, Vijayalakshmi, and two children. The group was returning to their hometown after visiting a relative in Bengaluru, highlighting the long-distance travel involved.
At approximately 7:45 AM, as the van approached Renganathapuram near Vedasandur in Dindigul district, Kumar reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The van veered off the road and subsequently overturned on a roadside embankment. This led to a minor injury for Sakthivel, aged 62, while the other occupants, including the children, escaped without any harm.
Nearby residents quickly responded to the scene, rescuing the occupants from the overturned van. Sakthivel was referred to the Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital for medical treatment, underscoring the prompt local assistance available in such emergencies.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the accident, the Koombur police rushed to the spot to assess the situation and provide support. A CSR (Community Service Register) was registered to document the incident, which is a standard procedure for such road mishaps to ensure proper record-keeping and follow-up actions.
This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers on highways, especially during early morning hours when fatigue or other factors might affect driver alertness. Authorities are likely to review the circumstances to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
