Police in Vadodara have made a shocking arrest in the murder of a 23-year-old man, charging his own fiancée with strangling him while he slept. The Makarpura police arrested Rekha Rathwa on Friday for the alleged murder of Sachin Rathwa, which occurred at her residence in the railway colony on December 29.
From Instagram Romance to a Deadly End
The couple's story began approximately three years ago when Rekha and Sachin connected on Instagram. Hailing from neighbouring villages in the Chhota Udepur district, they started meeting regularly and soon entered into a relationship. Their commitment culminated in an engagement last year. Rekha was employed as a helper with the railways, while Sachin worked as a driver. Following their engagement, Sachin had moved in to live with Rekha at her home in the railway colony.
Suspicions and a Fatal Argument
According to the police investigation, the relationship had recently deteriorated. Makarpura police inspector A M Gohil stated that Sachin frequently doubted Rekha's fidelity, suspecting her of having an affair, which led to constant arguments. The situation reached a breaking point a few days before the incident when, during a visit to Chhota Udepur, Sachin saw Rekha talking to another man.
On the fateful day of December 29, Sachin confronted Rekha about this interaction, triggering a bitter fight. Enraged during the argument, Sachin called his father and expressed his desire to end the relationship and break off the engagement. Inspector Gohil confirmed that this declaration infuriated Rekha. Later, claiming he was unwell, Sachin went to sleep. It was then that Rekha allegedly used her dupatta to strangle him to death as he slept.
Initial Deception and Eventual Confession
After some time, Rekha went outside and raised an alarm, pretending to discover that Sachin was not waking up. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Initially, Rekha maintained that she was unaware of how Sachin died. However, the postmortem report provided the crucial evidence, confirming death by strangulation.
Faced with the medical evidence, Rekha eventually broke down during police questioning and confessed to the crime. The Makarpura police have registered a murder case against her and placed her under arrest. Police are now investigating whether Rekha acted alone or had assistance from another person. "We are probing the case from all angles," Inspector Gohil added, indicating that the investigation remains active to uncover any further details or accomplices.
