In a significant crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), in close coordination with Moradabad police, executed a major operation on Wednesday that led to the seizure of over 113 kilograms of illegal ganja. The contraband, with an estimated value of Rs 30 lakh in the international market, was confiscated from a truck in the Pakbara area of Shamli district, resulting in the arrest of three individuals linked to a smuggling gang.
Intelligence-Led Interception at Bagadpur Checkpoint
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding a drug consignment being transported from Odisha to western Uttar Pradesh, the Meerut unit of the STF sprang into action. The team intercepted a truck approaching from the Rampur side at the Bagadpur checkpoint, where a thorough search uncovered the ganja hidden in concealed compartments within the vehicle. This meticulous operation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime.
Details of the Seizure and Arrests
According to police officials, the seized ganja was valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh in the international market, underscoring the scale of the illicit trade. ASP Brijesh Kumar Singh of the Meerut unit STF confirmed the details, emphasizing the significance of this bust in disrupting drug supply chains. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rakesh Kumar from Jatpura Dilari, along with Nanhe Singh and Mohammad Asif, both residents of Kankarkheda in Moradabad.
Interrogation Reveals Smuggling Network
During interrogation, the suspects disclosed critical information about their operations. They revealed that the ganja was procured from Odisha at a cost of Rs 7,000 per kilogram and was intended to be sold locally in Uttar Pradesh for Rs 10,000 per kilogram. This price differential points to a profitable smuggling network exploiting regional disparities, with the gang aiming to capitalize on the demand for narcotics in western UP.
The successful operation not only highlights the vigilance of the STF and Moradabad police but also serves as a stern warning to other criminal elements involved in drug trafficking. Authorities continue to investigate further links and potential accomplices to dismantle the entire network.
