UP Police Reviews Magh Mela 2026 Security for Lakhs of Devotees
UP ADG Reviews Magh Mela 2026 Security in Lucknow

With the anticipated arrival of hundreds of thousands of devotees for the upcoming Magh Mela in 2026, senior police officials in Uttar Pradesh have initiated a comprehensive review of security and logistical arrangements. The focus is squarely on ensuring a seamless and safe experience for all attendees.

High-Level Security Review from Command Centre

On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Amitabh Yash, conducted a detailed assessment of the security blueprint for the massive religious congregation. The review was carried out from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which serves as the nerve centre for monitoring the event.

During the session, ADG Yash meticulously examined the crowd management plans, emergency response systems, and the level of coordination between different agencies. The objective is to preempt any issues and guarantee a smooth flow of pilgrims throughout the mela period.

Priority on Pilgrim Convenience and Safety

In his discussions with senior officers on the ground, Amitabh Yash issued clear directives to prioritise the convenience of all visitors. He emphasised that sadhus, saints, kalpvasis, bathers, and general devotees should face no hurdles in reaching the sacred bathing ghats or during their stay in the mela area.

The police chief instructed officials to ensure several critical aspects are in place well before the event begins. These include:

  • Safe and obstruction-free access routes to and from the riverbanks.
  • Adequate lighting across the mela grounds for safety during early morning and evening hours.
  • Clear and sufficient signage to guide the massive crowds.
  • The timely completion of all public facilities intended for pilgrim use.

On-Ground Inspection of Key Points

Following the command centre review, ADG Yash personally inspected several crucial locations to get a first-hand view of the preparations. His inspection tour covered sensitive and high-footfall areas including the Sangam nose, the Jhunsi sector, and various parking zones.

This physical verification is a key step in identifying potential bottlenecks and ensuring that the plans formulated at the command level are effectively translated into actionable measures on the ground. The UP Police's proactive approach underscores the administration's commitment to managing one of the country's largest religious gatherings with efficiency and a sharp focus on security.
