UAE Authorities Launch Crackdown on Modified Vehicles Amid Regional Unrest

Residents Mistake Engine Noises for Security Threats
Police across the UAE have launched a comprehensive crackdown on motorists using illegally modified cars and motorcycles. This enforcement drive comes in response to numerous complaints from residents who reported late-night panic caused by loud explosion-like noises in residential neighborhoods. With regional developments escalating and showing no signs of pause, many residents initially feared these sudden bursts of sound could be linked to security incidents before realizing they originated from vehicles producing deliberate backfire sounds.
According to authorities, these disturbances were primarily caused by teenagers and young drivers revving their engines or operating vehicles modified with exhaust systems designed to produce explosive-like auditory effects. The noises, often heard late at night, echoed through residential streets in parts of Dubai and Sharjah, creating massive alarm among citizens already anxious about regional security developments.
Police Reassurance and Enhanced Monitoring
Police officials have clarified that the sounds reported in numerous neighborhoods were linked to reckless driving and modified vehicles rather than any genuine security threat. Authorities have reassured the public that the UAE remains safe and secure while continuing to monitor regional developments closely.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, explained that authorities are deploying advanced monitoring systems and enforcement campaigns to tackle the problem. "Our aim is to enhance road safety and ensure the comfort and tranquillity of residents by addressing violations such as excessive vehicle noise and illegal modifications," he stated.
In Sharjah, monitoring and enforcement have been similarly intensified following resident complaints about loud vehicles causing disturbances. Brigadier Khalifa Al Khassouni, Director of the Central Region Department at Sharjah Police, confirmed that targeted inspection campaigns and checkpoints have been deployed to detect vehicles with illegal modifications.
Strict Penalties for Violators
According to UAE traffic regulations, motorists caught driving vehicles that create excessive noise face substantial consequences:
- A fine of Dh2,000
- 12 black points on their license
- Possible vehicle impoundment
For vehicles modified without proper authorization, owners may face additional penalties including confiscation and release fees totaling Dh10,000. Police have also urged parents to monitor teenagers and young drivers to prevent reckless behavior that could disturb communities during this sensitive period.
