Barabanki Police File Case Against Two Teachers in Educator's Suicide
Police in Barabanki took serious action on Sunday. They registered a case of abetment to suicide against two teachers. This case connects directly to the tragic death of Uma Verma, a forty-year-old assistant teacher.
Discovery of the Tragedy
Uma Verma worked at Composite School Udhavapur. Her body was found hanging in the headmaster's room on January 17. The post-mortem report later confirmed her death resulted from hanging. Circle Officer Saurabh Srivastava shared this information with the public.
Husband Files Official Complaint
The First Information Report was filed at Satrikh police station. Rishi Verma, Uma's husband and also a teacher, submitted the complaint. He lives in Jalalpur under Kotwali Nagar limits. He stated he dropped his wife at her school on Saturday morning. He then left for his own workplace. Around noon, he received the devastating news about her body.
Rishi Verma made several serious allegations in his complaint. He claimed that when he reached the school, certain papers from his wife's purse were removed. He also said other evidence from the room disappeared. He described his wife as an innovative teacher. Her students often won state and national-level awards because of her methods.
Alleged Harassment Following Recognition
The complaint details a specific event. On November 11, 2025, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honored Uma Verma. He also honored one of her award-winning students during a visit to Fatehpur. According to the husband, this recognition triggered resentment.
He named two individuals in his complaint. The school headmistress, Siyawati, and another assistant teacher, Sushil Verma. He alleged they began harbouring ill feelings after the chief minister's honour. He stated they repeatedly made targeted comments against his wife. This constant harassment, he claimed, pushed Uma Verma into a deep depression.
Distressing Final Message
The complaint included a poignant detail. Around the time of the incident, Uma Verma posted a message as her mobile status. The message expressed profound despair. She wrote she no longer wanted to remain in such a school. She stated that despite her hard work, she only received pain. She mentioned being constantly humiliated beyond her capacity to endure.
The final line of her message was a plea for strength. It read, "God, please make me strong." This message forms a critical part of the husband's allegations about her mental state.
Police Action Based on Complaint
Circle Officer Saurabh Srivastava explained the police's decision. He said the case was registered based on the husband's detailed complaint. The police booked Sushil Verma and Siyawati. The allegations state they continuously harassed Uma Verma through their remarks. This harassment, according to the complaint, drove her to take the extreme step of ending her life.
The investigation is now ongoing. Police officials are examining all aspects of the complaint and the circumstances surrounding the teacher's death.
