Coimbatore police have made two more arrests in connection with a major burglary case where 13 flats in a residential complex were targeted. The new arrests bring the total number of individuals apprehended in this meticulously planned crime to five.
New Accused Identified and Their Role
On Monday, law enforcement officials took into custody M Dawood (18) and I Firiyan (23). Both men are originally from Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, this duo played a crucial supporting role in the burglary that took place on November 28 at a housing unit located in the Kavundampalayam area of Coimbatore.
Investigations reveal that Dawood and Firiyan arrived in Coimbatore in October. Their primary task was to conduct reconnaissance. They specifically monitored housing societies and apartment blocks, with a noted interest in areas where government employees resided.
Modus Operandi: Posing as Sellers to Plan Heist
The accused employed a deceptive tactic to gather intelligence without raising suspicion. They visited the targeted housing unit posing as utensil sellers. Under this guise, they were able to move around freely, observe security measures, and collect vital information about the flats and their occupants.
Once they had identified a suitable target and sketched out a plan, they passed on all the gathered intelligence to the main perpetrators. The information was relayed to I Asif, Arif, and Irfan – the three individuals who were earlier caught by police after being shot in their legs during the investigation.
Logistical Support and Judicial Custody
Beyond reconnaissance, the arrested duo's responsibilities extended to logistical support. Police confirmed that Dawood and Firiyan were also responsible for booking train tickets and explaining the detailed plan of action to the other members involved in executing the burglary.
Following their arrest, both accused have been remanded to judicial custody. They are currently held at the Coimbatore Central Prison as the police continue to probe deeper into the network and possible connections to other crimes.
This case highlights a trend of organized criminal groups using spotters to case potential targets before striking. The arrest of these two aides is a significant step for Coimbatore police in dismantling the entire chain involved in this audacious multi-flat burglary.
