Tragic Road Accident in Kerala Claims Two Young Lives

A devastating road accident in Kerala resulted in the deaths of two young individuals on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at Kunnathunada near Pirappancode, where a truck carrying a heavy load of rocks overturned, crushing a motorcycle and a car beneath it.

Details of the Fatal Collision

According to preliminary police findings, the truck was traveling from Nagarukuzhi towards Pirappancode when it collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact caused the truck driver to swerve violently, leading to the vehicle toppling over. The truck's load of rocks then fell onto a car that was passing by at the moment of the accident.

The victims have been identified as Adithyan, a 22-year-old from Vembayam, and Julie Ignatius, a 20-year-old from Kattakada. Adithyan was riding the motorcycle, while Julie was traveling as the pillion rider. The force of the collision was so extreme that the motorcycle was completely crushed under the overturned truck.

Immediate Aftermath and Casualties

Adithyan died instantly at the scene. Julie Ignatius, who was a second-year BA Economics student at Mar Ivanios College in Nalanchira and a national-level kabaddi player, was rushed to the Medical College Hospital (MCH). Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts.

The occupants of the car, identified as Rashid and Yasir from Palakkad, sustained minor injuries. They were returning after purchasing the vehicle when the accident occurred. Fire and rescue personnel, along with police teams, worked for approximately one-and-a-half hours to cut open the mangled car and extract them from the wreckage. Both were subsequently shifted to MCH for treatment.

Investigation and Legal Action

The truck driver fled the scene immediately following the accident. The Venjaramoodu police have registered a case against the driver under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision and to locate the absconding driver.

This tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region, particularly involving heavy vehicles carrying unstable loads. The local community has expressed shock and grief over the loss of two young lives, including that of a promising athlete.
