In a devastating incident early Thursday morning, two individuals, including a young Intermediate student, lost their lives in a road accident near Shamshabad, Hyderabad. The tragedy occurred when their motorcycle was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle on National Highway-44, leading to immediate fatalities at the scene.
Details of the Victims and Incident
The victims have been identified as Vikki Singh, 22, a native of Bihar who had settled in Kothur of Rangareddy district, and Suraj, 17, an Intermediate first-year student from Kothur, originally hailing from Uttar Pradesh. According to police reports, Vikki was riding the motorcycle with Suraj seated as the pillion rider. They were traveling from Kothur to Shamshabad, with Vikki intending to drop Suraj at an exam center in Shamshabad when the accident unfolded.
The collision took place around 7:40 am near Madanapalli old thanda village on NH-44. Police stated that an unknown vehicle rammed into the motorcycle from behind, causing both victims to be thrown onto the road. Tragically, they were subsequently run over by the same vehicle, resulting in multiple injuries that proved fatal on the spot. The driver of the offending vehicle fled the scene without stopping, leaving behind a scene of chaos and grief.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Shamshabad inspector K Narender Reddy provided insights into the ongoing investigation. He mentioned that authorities are actively reviewing CCTV camera footage from the vicinity of the crime scene in an effort to identify the accused driver. "We are verifying the CCTV camera feed near the crime scene to identify the accused," Inspector Reddy emphasized, highlighting the challenges in tracking down the hit-and-run perpetrator.
In response to the incident, Shamshabad police have registered a case under section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to causing death due to negligence. This legal step underscores the seriousness of the offense and the commitment to pursuing justice for the victims and their families.
Broader Context and Community Impact
This accident adds to the growing concerns over road safety in Hyderabad and across India, where hit-and-run cases often go unresolved due to lack of evidence or witness cooperation. The loss of a young student like Suraj, who was on his way to an exam, highlights the profound impact such incidents have on families and educational pursuits. Vikki Singh, a young man from Bihar who had made Hyderabad his home, represents the many migrants contributing to the city's growth, now tragically cut short.
Local authorities urge witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation. The community is left mourning the untimely deaths, with calls for enhanced traffic monitoring and stricter enforcement of road safety laws to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
