In a significant crackdown on illegal arms trade, the Sadar Bazar police in Jalna district successfully apprehended two individuals and seized a cache of illegal weapons from a busy commercial area on Tuesday.
Police Sting Operation Based on Tip-Off
Acting on a specific intelligence input, law enforcement officials swung into action late on Tuesday. Jalna Superintendent of Police Ajaykumar Bansal confirmed that the police had received credible information about a youth planning to sell an illegal firearm at Alankar Chowk, a prominent commercial hub in the city.
The police promptly laid a trap in the area. As soon as the suspect arrived at the designated spot, the waiting police team moved swiftly to detain him.
Weapons Seized, Third Accused Flees
The initial detention led to further revelations and the arrest of a second individual. From the duo, the police recovered two country-made pistols and eleven live cartridges.
However, the operation did not conclude without a hitch. SP Ajaykumar Bansal stated that a third accused managed to flee the scene and is currently absconding. A search is underway to locate and apprehend the fugitive.
Ongoing Investigation and Vigilance
The arrested youths are currently in police custody and are being interrogated. Investigators are probing the source of the illegal firearms, their intended buyers, and the possible network behind this trade. This incident highlights the continued vigilance of the Jalna police against the illicit arms market in the region.
The seizure of weapons from a crowded commercial area like Alankar Chowk has raised concerns, and police have assured heightened patrolling and surveillance to prevent such activities in the future.
