A devastating road accident on the Gaman Bridge in East Godavari district has claimed two lives, casting a pall of grief over the local community. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning near Pole No. 14 on the Kovvur side of the bridge, resulting in the immediate deaths of two individuals from Duddukuru village.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The victims have been identified as Tatapudi Subbarao, aged 37, and another person named Koti, both residents of Duddukuru village in Devarapalli mandal. According to preliminary reports, they were travelling on a motorcycle from Duddukuru towards Rajahmundry when the accident unfolded.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy

As the motorcycle approached Pole No. 14 on Gaman Bridge, the rider attempted to overtake a tractor that was moving ahead of them. During this overtaking maneuver, the motorcycle reportedly lost balance, leading to a catastrophic chain of events. The vehicle veered out of control and came under the rear wheels of a lorry that was travelling in the opposite direction, from Rajahmundry towards Kovvur.

Both the rider and the pillion rider sustained grievous injuries in the collision. Despite the severity of the impact, emergency responders confirmed that they died on the spot, leaving no chance for medical intervention.

Police Response and Post-Accident Procedures

Upon receiving information about the accident, local police authorities rushed to the scene to secure the area and initiate an investigation. The bodies of the deceased were carefully shifted to the mortuary of the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kovvur for preservation and necessary medico-legal procedures.
