Two Brothers Killed in Chandigarh as Speeding Thar Rams Their Motorcycle at Traffic Signal

In a tragic late-night incident in Chandigarh, two brothers from Saharanpur lost their lives when a speeding Mahindra Thar SUV crashed into their motorcycle near Kalagram on Tuesday night. The victims, identified as Gulsher Ali, 46, and Abdul Subhaan, 44, were both teachers at a madrasa in Saharanpur and had traveled to Chandigarh for religious work.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The accident occurred around 11 PM when the brothers were heading to meet a relative. Gulsher was riding the motorcycle with Abdul as the pillion rider. As they approached the Kalagram traffic signal, the light had 4-5 seconds remaining on red, prompting Gulsher to slow down. At that moment, a Mahindra Thar, driven at high speed by an 18-year-old identified as Arman from Sector 22, rammed into the motorcycle from behind.

Passersby immediately alerted the police via emergency number 112. Both victims were rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), where Gulsher was declared dead on arrival. Abdul Subhaan succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Arrest and Aftermath

Although the Thar driver fled the scene, a vigilant passerby noted the vehicle's registration number, enabling the Manimajra police to trace and arrest Arman shortly after the incident. The accused, whose father is a head constable, was later released on bail. The police handed over the bodies to the family after postmortem on Wednesday.

The brothers leave behind grieving families: Gulsher is survived by his wife and five children, while Abdul is survived by his wife and four children. Family members revealed that the brothers had arrived in Chandigarh from Saharanpur on February 21 and were staying with a relative in Manimajra for madrasa-related responsibilities.

Separate Fatal Accident in Chandigarh

In an unrelated incident early Wednesday morning, 28-year-old Akshay, a resident of Sector 24, died after his motorcycle skidded on the dividing road between Sectors 42 and 43. Akshay, who worked as a delivery boy for an online grocery platform, was heading home around 2 AM when he lost control near the back of the Sector 43 District Court.

He fell and hit his head on the divider, and was found unconscious by passersby who alerted the police. He was rushed to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16 (GMSH-16), where he was declared dead on arrival. Police noted that no helmet was found at the accident spot.

History of Deadly Crashes Involving Thar Vehicles in Chandigarh

This tragic incident adds to a concerning pattern of fatal accidents involving Mahindra Thar vehicles in the Chandigarh region:

  • October 15, 2025: A speeding Thar struck two sisters waiting for transportation in Sector 46, killing one and critically injuring the other outside Dev Samaj College.
  • October 29, 2025: A Thar allegedly driven by a drunk lawyer mowed down a stray cow and a cyclist in Nayagaon, killing both, before ramming a scooter near Kansal–Kaimbwala Road.
  • December 11, 2025: A 62-year-old cyclist, Milkha Singh of Sector 38, died in a hit-and-run near the Sector 23/24 light point when a Thar struck him and fled.
  • December 23, 2024: A speeding Thar crashed into a tree near the Sector 34 police station, killing one person and injuring three others.
