Two Arrested in West Champaran Double Murder Case Suspected as Honour Killing
Police in West Champaran have made significant progress in a chilling double murder case suspected to be an honour killing, with the arrest of two individuals on Monday. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that the accused confessed to killing a minor girl and her partner, then staging the crime as a suicide to evade social disgrace.
Details of the Arrests and Accused
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramu Mushar, a resident of Rampur Bagicha, and Jitendra Nishad alias Jeetan Mukhiya, who hails from Mahadeva in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district. According to police statements, both men admitted their involvement in the murders during interrogation.
Background of the Case
The case originated on September 14, 2025, when Madan Been, a resident of Rampur Bagicha Tola, filed a First Information Report alleging that his minor daughter, Dulari Kumari, had been kidnapped. In his complaint, he named eight people from the same village, including Akhilesh Yadav. In response, Akhilesh's mother filed a counter-complaint in court, accusing the girl's family of abducting her son.
Discovery of the Bodies
Nearly four months later, on January 22 this year, villagers who had ventured into the nearby Madanpur forest area to collect firewood made a grim discovery. They found two bodies hanging from a tree, which were later identified as the missing duo—Dulari Kumari and Akhilesh Yadav.
Investigation Findings
During the subsequent investigation, police uncovered that Dulari and Akhilesh were in a relationship, which was strongly opposed by the girl's father, Madan Been. Authorities stated that Been allegedly feared social stigma and, along with his associate Ramu Mushar and other relatives, conspired to eliminate the couple.
The police revealed that on September 8 last year, the girl was taken to the forest under the pretext of collecting leaves. Akhilesh was later lured to the same location through a phone call made using Mushar's mobile device. Investigators said the accused forced Akhilesh to write a suicide note, which was then hidden beneath his mobile cover.
According to police accounts, the accused then allegedly killed the girl and strangled Akhilesh before hanging both bodies from a tree using ropes to create the appearance of a suicide.
Police Statements and Ongoing Efforts
Superintendent of Police Ramanand Kaushal of Bagaha stated that the arrests were made based on technical evidence gathered during the probe. He emphasized that further raids are currently underway to apprehend other accused individuals who remain absconding.
The case has drawn attention due to its brutal nature and the suspected motive of honour killing, highlighting ongoing social issues in the region. Police continue to investigate the full extent of the conspiracy and the roles of all involved parties.
