Hapur Food Manufacturing Unit Sealed Over Unhygienic Tomato Sauce Production

In a significant crackdown on food adulteration, a food manufacturing unit located in Pannapuri, Hapur, has been sealed following a raid by the food safety department. The raid uncovered that the unit was producing tomato sauce under highly unhygynic conditions, utilizing vegetable pulp, acid, and banned synthetic colors, raising serious health concerns.

Details of the Raid and Seizure

During the operation, officials seized nearly 200 litres of adulterated tomato sauce. This sauce was allegedly being sold to local eateries and street vendors at a rate of Rs 20 per litre, significantly below market prices, which often indicates the use of substandard ingredients. The food safety team found the production area to be contaminated with rotten material and chemical substances, violating basic hygiene standards.

Food Commissioner Sunil Kumar confirmed the findings, stating that prohibited colors and unsafe chemical additives were present at the unit. "Samples have been sent for laboratory testing to determine the exact composition and safety levels. Based on initial inspection, the product appeared unsafe for human consumption," Kumar emphasized.

Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigation

The entire stock of adulterated sauce has been confiscated, and authorities have initiated the process to destroy it to prevent any further distribution. Commissioner Kumar announced that a thorough probe has been launched to identify all individuals involved in the supply chain and distribution network of this tainted product.

"Strict legal action will be pursued based on the laboratory findings. If the samples are confirmed to be unsafe, a formal case will be filed against the operator of the unit," Kumar stated, underscoring the department's commitment to enforcing food safety regulations.

Public Advisory and Safety Measures

In light of this incident, Commissioner Kumar issued a strong advisory to residents, urging caution when consuming food from roadside eateries and street vendors. He highlighted that unusually cheap street food often signals the use of adulterated or low-quality ingredients, posing health risks.

"People should avoid opting for suspiciously inexpensive food items and always check for basic hygiene practices at food preparation sites. If anyone suspects adulteration or unsafe food practices, they should immediately report it to the food safety department for swift action," Kumar advised, encouraging public vigilance in safeguarding community health.

This case underscores the ongoing challenges in monitoring food safety standards and the critical need for regular inspections to prevent such malpractices in the food industry.
