Two Arrested in Hazaribag for Stone Pelting at Police During Ram Navami Procession
In Hazaribag, two persons have been arrested for allegedly pelting stones at police officers who prevented a Ram Navami procession from passing through an unauthorized route. The incident occurred on Tuesday night under the Barkatha police station area during the Mangala Julus event.
Police Action and Injuries
Barhi SDPO Ajit Kumar Bimal stated on Wednesday that the procession did not have the necessary license to use the intended route. "Police were performing their duty, but a few members of the procession began stone pelting on officers, resulting in injuries to two policemen," he explained. The arrested individuals were identified as Uttam Mahto and Rajiv, who were reportedly leading the procession.
Legal Measures Implemented
In response to the incident, authorities have promulgated Section 363 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), banning processions and assemblies on that specific route. A case has been registered at Barkatha police station against the arrested persons and other unknown individuals involved in the altercation.
The police emphasized that the action was taken to maintain law and order, ensuring public safety during the religious event. This development highlights ongoing tensions during festive processions and the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing unauthorized gatherings.
