Tripura crime at 20-year low, 8.3% drop in 2025

Tripura has achieved a significant milestone in public safety, with the state's crime rate falling to its lowest point in the last twenty years. The announcement was made by the Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag, during a press conference held in Agartala on Thursday.

Historic Decline in Overall Crime Figures

The year 2025 recorded 3,698 reported criminal incidents, marking a notable 8.3% decrease from the 4,033 cases registered in 2024. DGP Anurag emphasized that this figure represents a historic low for the state over the past two decades. He credited this achievement to the combined efforts of the police force and active participation from the community, highlighting a successful model of collaborative law enforcement.

Major Drops in Violent and Property Crimes

A detailed breakdown of the statistics reveals substantial reductions across key crime categories. Notably, property-related offences saw one of the sharpest declines, falling by 16%. The number of cases dropped from 349 in 2024 to 293 in the reported year.

Violent crimes also decreased significantly. The state witnessed an 18% reduction in murder cases, with numbers falling from 116 to 95. Incidents categorized as hurt and assault decreased by 14%, from 815 cases to 699. Furthermore, riot incidents plummeted by 26%, from 23 to 17.

Focus on Crimes Against Women

The data also shows a positive trend in crimes against women, with reported cases declining from 724 to 665. While this remains a critical area for continuous focus, the reduction indicates progress in the state's security and preventive measures.

The comprehensive data presented by the Tripura Police paints an encouraging picture of improved law and order. The consistent decline across multiple crime categories suggests that the strategies implemented by the force are yielding tangible results, making Tripura a safer place for its residents.
