Panic gripped the vicinity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Terminal-1 in Vile Parle (East) on Saturday when a black toy drone was discovered falling from a tree. The incident occurred amidst heightened security measures in preparation for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations and VVIP movements, amplifying concerns over potential threats in sensitive areas.
FIR Filed Against Unknown Person for Drone Violation
Airport police have registered a first information report (FIR) against an unknown individual under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 223, which pertains to disobedience of orders lawfully promulgated by public servants. The complaint was filed by police constable Vinod Shirsath (35), highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are treating the breach of security protocols.
Discovery and Investigation Details
According to Shirsath, the incident unfolded around noon when Vishal Raje, an electrical team leader working under the supervision of the landside operational manager of the Adani group, was engaged in tree-cutting operations at the airport's autorickshaw pickup point using a boom lift. It was during this activity that the toy drone unexpectedly fell from the tree.
Raje immediately informed the landside manager, prompting officials to conduct a thorough search of the area. However, no individuals were sighted in the vicinity, raising questions about the drone's origin and operator. Following the search, Raje and the officials proceeded to the police station to submit the drone for further examination.
In response to the discovery, constable Shirsath and sub-inspector Khair of the Anti-Terrorism Squad conducted an on-site inspection to assess potential security implications and gather evidence.
