The Tirupati district police have released the annual crime statistics for 2025, revealing a largely stable law and order situation with no significant surge in overall criminal activity. The data, presented by Superintendent of Police L Subbarayudu during a press conference on Sunday, indicates a marginal increase of less than one percent in total registered cases compared to the previous year.
The overall number of cases registered in 2025 stood at 9,253, a slight increase from the 9,118 cases recorded in 2024. This minimal rise suggests that the district has not experienced a real spike in the crime rate over the past year.
Mixed Trends in Bodily and Property Offences
A detailed breakdown of the crime data presents a mixed picture across different categories. On a positive note, cases related to bodily offences registered a notable decline of 6%. The district recorded 1,029 such cases in 2025, down from 1,095 in the preceding year.
Conversely, property crimes witnessed an uptick. This category saw a 5.4% increase, with 1,109 cases registered this year against 1,052 in 2024. This rise highlights an area where law enforcement may focus greater preventive efforts in the coming months.
Significant Decline in Cyber Crime Cases
One of the most encouraging findings from the report is a substantial decrease in cyber crime incidents. The data shows a 22% decline in registered cyber crime cases for 2025. Only 186 cases were filed this year, a significant drop from the 241 cases reported in 2024.
However, the financial impact of these crimes tells a different story. The total amount lost to cyber fraud in 2025 was ₹14.45 crore, which is higher than the ₹12.31 crore lost in 2024. On a positive note, the recovery rate improved. Police managed to recover ₹3.53 crore in 2025, compared to ₹2.3 crore recovered the previous year.
Road Safety Initiatives Show Results
The district's focus on road safety has yielded measurable outcomes. The number of fatal road accidents decreased in 2025. There were 474 fatal mishaps this year, resulting in 513 deaths and 1,384 injuries. In comparison, 2024 saw 497 fatal accidents, which claimed 541 lives and left 1,303 people injured.
SP Subbarayudu attributed this improvement to several targeted initiatives. He highlighted the ongoing implementation of the ‘No helmet, no petrol' drive across the district. Furthermore, authorities have identified 48 accident-prone black spots on seven national highways and 13 state highways. Adequate measures have been put in place at these locations to prevent accidents.
Crackdown on Narcotics Smuggling
The district police have adopted a zero-tolerance stance against ganja smuggling. Their efforts in 2025 led to the registration of approximately 68 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These operations resulted in the arrest of 179 individuals and the seizure of a substantial 762 kilograms of ganja.
The comprehensive data for 2025 paints a picture of a district where overall crime remains under control. While property crimes require attention, the significant drop in cyber crime cases and the reduction in road fatalities demonstrate the effectiveness of specific police initiatives. The continued crackdown on drug smuggling further underscores the department's commitment to tackling organized crime.
