Three SHOs, driver killed in Begusarai road accident

PATNA: Three station house officers (SHOs) and the driver of their vehicle were killed after their SUV crashed into a truck in Bihar's Begusarai district in the early hours of Friday while they were returning from a training programme in Patna, officials said.

Accident Details

The accident took place on National Highway-31 near Bakhadda Dhala in Begusarai district. The deceased officers were posted as SHOs at police stations in Madhepura district.

SHOs Sajan Kumar Paswan of Ratwara, Gyanendra Amarendra of Arar and Neeraj Kumar of Belari died on the spot, while the driver, Jyotish Kumar, succumbed to injuries during treatment, DSP (traffic) Ranjit Kumar said.

The SUV carrying the police personnel crashed into a truck while they were returning from the training programme in Patna, the officer said, adding that police have initiated a probe to ascertain the exact cause and sequence of events leading to the crash.

Condolences

Condoling the deaths in the accident, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary wrote on X, "The news of the untimely death of three station house officers and their driver in the tragic road accident in Begusarai is extremely saddening and painful. This irreparable loss is a deep shock to the entire police fraternity."

He prayed for the peace of the departed souls and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

Investigation Underway

Police have initiated a probe to ascertain the exact cause and sequence of events leading to the crash. Further details are awaited.
