Police in Koderma district have made significant headway in a disturbing case involving the harassment and extortion of minor school students. Authorities confirmed the arrest of three individuals last week in connection with an incident that took place at the popular Vrindaha waterfall.
Details of the Arrests and Accused
Senior Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh provided details on Wednesday, identifying the arrested men as Bablu Yadav (30), Rakesh Kumar alias Bhakru (25), and Ajit Kumar (19). All three hail from Moriyawan, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Telaiya police station. According to the SP, the trio are habitual offenders with prior criminal records. Bablu Yadav and Rakesh Kumar already have criminal cases registered against them, while Ajit Kumar has been involved in a theft case. A manhunt is currently underway for a fourth accused, identified as Suresh Yadav, who remains at large.
The Harrowing Ordeal at the Waterfall
The case came to light after a minor school student filed a formal complaint with the Telaiya police. The victim stated that he was visiting the scenic Vrindaha waterfall with a female friend, also a minor and school student, when they were confronted by the accused. The situation turned terrifying when the assailants held the teenagers at gunpoint. The accused then allegedly proceeded to forcefully record obscene videos of the girl. To compound the trauma, they extorted Rs 4,635 from the boy before initially letting them go.
However, the harassment did not end there. Even after the payment was made and the victims were allowed to leave the spot, the accused continued their intimidation. They subsequently demanded an additional Rs 5,000 from the terrified students.
Police Action and Investigation
Responding swiftly to the serious nature of the crime, the Koderma police formed four specialised investigation teams. These teams were led by high-ranking officers from the Tilaiya, Chandwara, and Domchanch police stations. The breakthrough came following a specific tip-off, which led the teams to conduct a targeted raid. This operation resulted in the successful apprehension of the three accused persons. Police efforts are now concentrated on locating and arresting the fourth suspect, Suresh Yadav, to ensure all individuals involved face justice.
The incident has raised concerns about safety at local tourist spots and highlights the proactive steps taken by law enforcement to address crimes against minors.
