Police in Jharkhand's Koderma district have made significant headway in a disturbing case involving the harassment and extortion of minor school students. Authorities confirmed the arrest of three individuals linked to an incident that occurred last week at the popular Vrindaha waterfall, located within the limits of the Telaiya police station.
The Harrowing Incident at the Waterfall
According to the official complaint, a minor school boy was visiting the scenic Vrindaha waterfall with a female friend, also a minor and school student, when they were accosted by a group of men. The situation turned terrifying when the accused held the two teenagers at gunpoint. The perpetrators then allegedly proceeded to forcefully shoot obscene videos of the girl. To compound the trauma, they extorted a sum of Rs 4,635 from the boy before initially letting them leave the spot.
However, the harassment did not end there. Even after the payment was made, the accused continued to menace the victims, demanding an additional Rs 5,000. This brazen act of intimidation prompted the victims to approach the police, leading to the registration of a formal case.
Swift Police Action and Arrests
Responding to the serious nature of the crime, the Koderma police swiftly formed four specialised investigation teams. These teams were led by high-ranking officers from the Tilaiya, Chandwara, and Domchanch police stations, demonstrating the priority given to the case.
Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh detailed the operation, stating that following a crucial tip-off, the teams conducted a targeted raid. This coordinated effort led to the apprehension of three suspects. The arrested individuals have been identified as Bablu Yadav (30), Rakesh Kumar alias Bhakru (25), and Ajit Kumar (19). All three are residents of Moriyawan, which falls under the Telaiya police station jurisdiction.
Accused are Habitual Offenders
SP Anudeep Singh revealed that the arrested trio are not first-time offenders. Bablu Yadav and Rakesh Kumar already have criminal cases registered against them, while Ajit Kumar has been involved in a theft case. Their history marks them as habitual offenders, adding gravity to the current charges.
The police investigation remains active as the hunt continues for a fourth accused, identified as Suresh Yadav. Authorities are pursuing all leads to ensure he is also brought to justice. The case underscores ongoing concerns about safety at public tourist spots and the police's commitment to acting against crimes targeting minors.
