Karnal Police Crack Down on Cow Slaughter Ring, Arrest Three from Uttar Pradesh

In a significant development, the Karnal police have apprehended three individuals from Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in cow slaughter and the illegal disposal of cattle carcasses in Haryana's Indri block. The arrests come after a series of disturbing discoveries in the Western Yamuna Canal and Dhanaura escape last week, which ignited public outrage and demands for swift action.

Details of the Arrests and Investigation

The accused have been identified as Azam, Nawab, and Shehzad, all residents of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. According to CIA-1 in-charge Sandeep Singh, Nawab and Shehzad are brothers. They were taken into custody from Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and produced before a court on Wednesday, which granted the police a four-day remand for further interrogation. The police are actively investigating to determine if others were involved in the case.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya, with teams from CIA-1, CIA-2, and CIA-3 working on the case. A formal complaint was registered at the Indri police station under sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015, as well as Section 238(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Modus Operandi and Recovery of Evidence

During a media interaction, Singh detailed the accused's method of operation. "The accused used to pick up stray cattle or those found near markets. They slaughtered the animals along the canal embankment in the Indri area and sold the meat. They threw the heads of the animals into the canal," he explained. This reckless disposal led to the recovery of over 20 cattle heads and body parts from the canal and Dhanaura escape on March 17, 18, and 21.

  • On the first day, remains of 8-9 cattle were found.
  • Additional carcasses were recovered the following day.
  • Further discoveries were made on March 21 in the Dhanaura escape.

Public Outrage and Protests

The incidents triggered widespread tension in the area, with locals and cow vigilantes expressing strong disapproval. Protesters blocked the Karnal-Indri state highway last week and held a panchayat at the Indri Rest House on Sunday, issuing a two-day ultimatum to the police to identify and arrest those responsible. This public pressure underscored the urgency of the investigation.

Ongoing Police Efforts and Future Steps

The police are currently verifying the criminal history of the arrested individuals and anticipate more arrests as the probe continues. Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya has commended the efforts of the police team in solving the case promptly. The swift action highlights the authorities' commitment to enforcing laws against illegal slaughter and maintaining public order in the region.
