Thane Police Seize 24.2 kg Weed, Arrest 3 in Diva Drug Bust

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the anti-narcotics cell of Mumbra police in Thane district has made a major breakthrough by arresting three individuals and seizing a substantial quantity of marijuana. The operation, conducted in the Diva area, led to the recovery of 24.2 kilograms of weed, with an estimated street value of Rs 6 lakh, during a targeted raid on Saturday.

Targeted Raid Based on Specific Intelligence

Acting on a precise tip-off received by head constable Tushar Mahale, a dedicated police team swiftly mobilized to conduct a raid on a residence located in Diva East. The intelligence suggested the presence of illicit narcotics, prompting immediate action to curb the drug trade in the region.

Arrests and Suspected Syndicate Links

The three individuals apprehended during the raid are believed to be part of an active interstate drug trafficking syndicate. Their arrest marks a crucial step in dismantling organized crime networks that operate across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Following the seizure, a formal case was registered at the Mumbra police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlighting the seriousness of the offense.

Ongoing Investigation and Broader Network Probe

An official involved in the case stated, "We suspect this group is part of a larger narcotics network operating across the MMR region, and the probe was launched into the entire network." The investigation, spearheaded by Police Sub-Inspector Ramkrishna Dalvi, is now intensively focused on identifying the source of the drugs and uncovering other potential members linked to this illicit operation. This effort aims to root out the entire supply chain and prevent further distribution of narcotics in the area.

Recent Anti-Drug Campaign Achievements

This latest bust is part of a broader anti-narcotics campaign by the department. Since January 2024, authorities have arrested 98 suspects and seized narcotics worth a staggering Rs 48.5 crore. Additionally, over 970 actions have been taken specifically against drug consumption, underscoring a comprehensive approach to combating both supply and demand in the fight against substance abuse.

The successful operation in Diva not only disrupts local drug trafficking but also sends a strong message about law enforcement's commitment to maintaining public safety and health in Thane and the wider MMR region.
