The Thane Anti-Extortion Cell has achieved a significant breakthrough by dismantling a major mephedrone (MD) trafficking network, resulting in the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 1 crore and the arrest of six individuals connected to the racket.

Investigation Begins with Tip-off

Acting on credible intelligence, the police team made their first breakthrough by detaining Sachin Subhash Chavan. During his interrogation and search, authorities recovered 29.06 grams of mephedrone from his possession, marking the beginning of a deeper investigation into the drug network.

Chain of Arrests Unfolds

Following technical analysis and inputs from confidential informants, the investigation team subsequently apprehended R Dagur. A personal search conducted on Dagur led to the discovery of 34 grams of MD, further expanding the scope of the drug bust and revealing more connections within the trafficking network.

Massive Contraband Seizure

The comprehensive operation resulted in the confiscation of 999.2 grams of high-purity mephedrone along with multiple mobile phones and other incriminating materials. Shailesh Salvi, senior inspector of the Anti-Extortion Cell, confirmed that the total value of the seized items exceeds Rs 1 crore.

The investigation is being spearheaded by API Sunil Tarmale of the Anti-Extortion Cell, who is working to uncover the entire supply chain and identify additional individuals involved in the drug racket. This operation represents a significant blow to drug trafficking activities in the Thane region.
