Thane Crime Branch Cracks Major Mobile Theft Case, Recovers 30 High-End Smartphones
In a significant breakthrough, the Wagle Unit 5 of the Thane Crime Branch has successfully cracked a major mobile phone theft case, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old man and the recovery of 30 high-end smartphones. The recovered devices have a collective market value exceeding Rs 5.3 lakh, marking a substantial blow to organized theft operations in the region.
Coordinated Raid Leads to Arrest of Suspect
Acting on a credible tip-off, police officers meticulously tracked down the suspect, identified as Akbar alias Papa, a native of Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh. The accused was found hiding in a chawl located near Chinchoti Lake in Naigaon East, within Palghar district. A well-coordinated raid conducted on February 19 resulted in the arrest of Akbar Shaukat Ali Shah.
Investigators revealed that Shah had been evading law enforcement by frequently changing his locations and allegedly living under a false identity to avoid detection. This tactic had complicated earlier efforts to apprehend him, but persistent police work ultimately led to his capture.
Recovery of Stolen Smartphones and Legal Proceedings
A thorough search of Shah's rented accommodation uncovered smartphones from various popular brands, all suspected to be stolen property. Preliminary investigations have linked these recovered devices to a theft case previously registered at the Kasarvadavali police station. The case falls under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, highlighting the serious nature of the offenses involved.
The operation was executed under the expert supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Detection 1) Shekhar Bagde. The investigative team was spearheaded by Senior Police Inspector Salil Bhosale of Wagle Unit 5, with crucial support from Assistant Police Inspector Jagdish Gavit, who continues to probe deeper into the case to uncover any additional connections or accomplices.
Team Effort in Law Enforcement Success
This successful crackdown was a result of collaborative efforts from multiple police personnel. Key members of the operation included:
- Police Constable Uttam Shelke
- Police Constable Raghunath Garde
- Police Constable Tejas Thanekar
- Police Constable Nilesh Shedge
Their dedication and coordinated actions were instrumental in ensuring the raid's success and the subsequent recovery of the stolen smartphones. This case underscores the Thane Crime Branch's commitment to combating mobile theft and enhancing public safety in the area.
