Tragic Accident Claims Teen's Life in Faridabad Gorge Plunge
A devastating accident in Faridabad resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy and left two of his friends critically injured after their SUV plunged nearly 50 feet into a deep gorge. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Sirohi village, located within the rugged terrain of the Aravalli hills.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The tragedy unfolded around 2:30 PM when four friends ventured off the main road in their Mahindra Thar, navigating onto a rough and rocky trail. According to police spokesperson Yashpal Yadav, the vehicle was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control, causing the SUV to roll into the gorge and shatter upon impact.
However, sources familiar with the investigation have suggested an alternative narrative, claiming the group was actively filming stunt videos or reels near the edge of the precipice when the accident occurred. The area, sometimes referred to as "Mini Ladakh" due to its picturesque landscape and Panikot Lake, attracts visitors for photography and short trips.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
The deceased has been identified as Vedang Babu, also known as Sohan, a 15-year-old Class 9 student. Originally from Siwan district in Bihar, he was residing in Karnera village of Ballabgarh. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Al-Falah Medical College and Hospital.
The critically injured included the driver, Vikas Kumar (21), and another youth named Himmat. Both were initially treated at the same hospital and were reported to be in stable condition by Tuesday evening. An investigator later revealed, "Both Vikas and Himmat took voluntary discharge from the hospital on Wednesday and now they will undergo treatment in Delhi. They are out of danger." A fourth companion, Vikram, sustained only minor injuries in the harrowing incident.
Community Response and Police Action
Local villagers who were passing through the trail witnessed the vehicle's fall and immediately alerted authorities. Several brave residents rushed to the scene, climbed down into the treacherous gorge, and managed to pull out the injured youths before police and emergency services could arrive.
The three seriously injured individuals were transported to Al-Falah Medical College, where doctors confirmed Sohan's death. Police subsequently shifted his body to the mortuary of BK Hospital for a post-mortem examination and have informed his family.
Law enforcement officials and local authorities remained at the accident site until late evening, utilizing a crane to retrieve the mangled vehicle from the depths of the gorge. An officer disclosed that the SUV was registered in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh and had been brought to Faridabad approximately one month ago by Vikas's family. Vikas is self-employed, while Sohan's father works for a private company.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Police have registered a case against driver Vikas Kumar under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing to determine the precise cause of the accident, with authorities examining both the speeding theory and the possibility of stunt filming contributing to the tragedy.
This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and potentially risky behavior in hazardous, off-road environments. The community of Sirohi village, nestled along the Ballabgarh-Sohna Road, is reeling from the loss of a young life in such preventable circumstances.
