The Bengaluru police have arrested the prime accused in a triple murder case from Puducherry, relying on a combination of CCTV footage, toll plaza records, and field intelligence. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Ravi Kumar, was apprehended within 48 hours of the crime, which took place in the city's outskirts on 23 June 2026.
How the police tracked the suspect
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) S. Vishwanath, the breakthrough came when investigators analyzed CCTV footage from multiple locations. The footage showed the accused fleeing the crime scene in a white sedan. Toll plaza data helped trace the vehicle's route out of Bengaluru towards the east coast. “We used automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems at toll plazas to confirm the vehicle's movement,” Vishwanath said.
Field intelligence teams were deployed along the route, and local informants in Puducherry tipped off the police about the suspect's presence in a rented room near the beach. A joint team from Bengaluru and Puducherry police conducted the arrest on 25 June without any resistance.
The crime and its impact
The triple murder occurred on the night of 23 June in a residential area of Kengeri, where three men were found stabbed to death. Preliminary investigations suggest a dispute over a property deal. The accused had been absconding since the incident. The swift arrest has been widely praised by local residents, who had demanded immediate action.
“The use of technology in this case is a testament to modern policing methods,” said former police commissioner M. N. Reddi. “It also highlights the importance of inter-state coordination.”
Broader implications for crime-solving
This case is part of a growing trend where Bengaluru police leverage digital tools. In the past year, the city's crime branch has solved over 60% of serious offenses using CCTV and ANPR data. Officials say they plan to expand the network of surveillance cameras and integrate real-time data analysis.
Ravi Kumar has been remanded to judicial custody and will be produced before a Bengaluru court on 27 June. Further investigations are underway to determine if he had any accomplices.
